ERIE COUNTY LEGISLATURE APPROVES NEW COOLER/FREEZER, X-RAY EQUIPMENT FOR THE MEDICAL EXAMINER'S OFFICE

The Erie County Legislature unanimously approved the purchase and installation of much-needed equipment for the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office at its April 3 session.

The County Legislature voted to purchase and install a new cooler/freezer and portable digital x-ray equipment to replace old equipment which is becoming harder and more expensive to replace or repair at the offices at the Erie County Medical Center.

"I am very pleased that the County Legislature voted unanimously to approve this new equipment to help continue the vital operation and service of the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office," County Legislature Chair Lynn M. Marinelli (D-Buffalo, Tonawanda) said. "This will allow the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office to continue its everyday operations in efficient and high quality manners."

"The current equipment was becoming harder and costlier to replace. The coolers are more than 40 years old with seals taped up and all eight upper coolers unable to be used," County Legislator Betty Jean Grant (D-7th District, Buffalo), whose district contains ECMC, said. "The current x-ray equipment is broken and so old that replacement parts can no longer be found. Having worked in a morgue, I realize just how important it is to acquire this new equipment."

"I am proud that my County Legislature colleagues have joined me in approving new equipment that is necessary to allow the Medical Examiner's Office to perform its necessary duties," County Legislator Thomas M. Mazur (D-Cheektowaga), Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, said. "This new equipment will be very useful and helpful in both law enforcement and in helping relieve and comfort families of people who die in some of their most vulnerable situations. We in the County Legislature commend the hard and too-often unsung work the professionals in the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office perform 365 days a year."
