COUNTY LEGISLATURE CHAIRPERSON MARINELLI URGES VOTERS TO ATTEND FINAL CHARTER REVISION PUBLIC HEARING AUGUST 9
Erie County Legislature Chairperson Lynn M. Marinelli (D-Buffalo, Tonawanda) is urging county residents to attend the public hearing on the package of County Charter revisions, which the County Executive has scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, in the County Legislature Chambers on the Fourth Floor of 92 Franklin Street, Buffalo.
The County Legislature unanimously approved the package of 33 charter revisions last week, including voting to strengthen financial oversight and budgetary structure through increasing the powers of the County Comptroller and authorizing the Comptroller to declare a deficit, review revenue projections, and allow the Legislature to reduce such projections by a two-thirds majority vote.
"This will be the final chance for the public, in an open, public forum, to offer comments on the charter revisions the County Legislature unanimously adopted," Chairperson Marinelli said. "The County Executive will take these comments into consideration before he votes to approve or veto the charter reform package."
If the County Executive approves the package, it will appear on the ballot for voters to approve or reject in November. If the package is vetoed, the County Legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds (10-5) majority vote.
