August 12, 2004MARINELLI REMINDS RESIDENTS
OF SALES TAX-FREE WEEK
Erie County Legislator Lynn Marinelli (D-Buffalo/Tonawanda) would like to remind County residents of the upcoming sales tax-free week on certain clothing and footwear purchases. At its July 15 session, the Legislature voted to support the sales tax exemption holiday.
The next such sales tax-free week is scheduled to be held from August 31-September 6, and will suspend the collection of levy of all sales tax on purchase of clothing and footwear valued up to $110.
"In the past, these sales tax holidays have been very successful, benefiting both consumers and businesses in Erie County," said Legislature Majority Leader Marinelli.
In addition to shirts, slacks and shoes the exemption includes: aprons, arch supports, athletic sport uniforms, bathing caps and suits, belts and suspenders, hosiery, rain wear, scarves, handkerchiefs, ties, and shoe laces. In addition fabric, thread, yarn, buttons, snaps and zippers used to make or repair exempt clothing are tax exempt. Bibs, receiving blankets and diapers (including disposable) can also be purchased tax free.
