COUNTY LEGISLATURE CHAIR MARINELLI ANNOUNCES HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DROPOFF, ELECTRONICS COLLECTION DAY

Erie County Legislature Chair Lynn M. Marinelli (D-Buffalo, Tonawanda) is announcing that the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning will hold a household hazardous waste drop-off and electronics/computers special collection day from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, August 25, at the Town of Marilla Highway Department, 1883 West Avenue, Marilla.

County residents are encouraged to bring these household hazardous wastes to the special drop-off day: up to 20 pounds each of pesticides, fertilizers, chlorines and poisons; waxes, polishers, acids, adhesives and glues; up to four automotive tires per person, but no off-road vehicle tires; aerosol paints, cleaners, lubricants and bug sprays; up to 10 gallons each of oil-based paints, varnishes, polyurethane, deck or driveway sealer and tar; up to two gallons each of paint thinner, stripper, solvents, turpentine and kerosene; lead acid automobile and rechargeable batteries; up to 10 gallons each of automotive brake and transmission fluids, gasoline, diesel fuel and antifreeze; mercury thermometers, thermostats and elemental metal; full or empty propane tanks and cylinders, and marine flares, but no road flares.

Also, the following computer and electronic items will be accepted: CPUs, CRTs, monitors, keyboards and mice, printers, scanners, televisions, cellular telephones, rechargeable batteries and fluorescent bulbs. Neither appliances nor commercial/business/industrial wastes will be accepted; other items that will not be accepted are alkaline batteries, asbestos, compressed gas cylinders (acetylene, helium, oxygen), cooking/frying oils, fire extinguishers, Freon, latex paint, medicine, smoke detectors or syringes.
