August 23, 2004MARINELLI EARMARKS $15,000 FOR
ELLWOOD FIRE DISTRICT
Erie County Legislator Lynn Marinelli (D-Tonawanda/Buffalo) recently secured a $15,000 County grant for Ellwood Fire District No. 1. The money will be used to purchase an updated computer system with new software and a TV surveillance system for the building and grounds.
"Ellwood firefighters expressed a need to replace antiquated computers with new equipment needed for record keeping and training," said Legislature Majority Leader Marinelli. "In addition, the surveillance cameras were requested as a Homeland Security feature to protect the emergency equipment and supplies housed in the building."
The Ellwood Fire District currently has 58 active members with each member required to attend and participate in regular drills to maintain their proficiency in firefighting. In addition to its primary role, the Ellwood Fire Hall is also used by local civic groups for meetings and activities.
"The men and women who make up the Ellwood Fire District sacrifice their time and safety to ensure the well being of their neighbors in Tonawanda," said Legislator Marinelli. "By getting the equipment necessary to run a better and more efficient firehouse, the Ellwood Fire District will now, more than ever, be able to complete this selfless task."
"This new equipment will help us comply with national guidelines and recommendations for local Homeland Security," said Firefighter Robert Blount.
