COUNTY LEGISLATURE CHAIR MARINELLI ISSUES STATEMENT ON THE DOWNSIZING VETO OVERRIDE VOTE ATTEMPT

Erie County Legislature unanimously approved the downsizing the Legislature to 13 members from 15 and, upon the recommendation of the 21st Century Commission, increasing the length of terms to four years from two on July 2.

The county executive vetoed this unanimous vote to enact real reform and change in the County Legislature July 30, and today, the County Legislature voted 9-5 attempting to override this veto. A two-thirds majority would have been required to override the veto.

"This action postpones reform measures until next year's ballot. This issue will again be pursued through the Government Affairs Committee," County Legislator Chair Lynn M. Marinelli (D-Buffalo, Tonawanda) said.
