MARINELLI ANNOUNCES SENIOR SERVICES OUTREACH EVENT

Erie County Legislature Majority Leader Lynn Marinelli (D-Tonawanda, Buffalo) would like to notify residents of a senior services outreach event being held from 1:00PM to 3:30PM on Friday, October 8, 2004 at the Town of Tonawanda Senior Center at 291 Ensminger Road.

This is one of several Alpha Program outreach events, named to reflect a whole gamut of services A thru Z specifically for older adults, offered through Senior Services and other partner agencies.

"I encourage residents to stop by this event and learn more about the many programs available to them," said Legislator Marinelli.

Each Alpha location is staffed by a representative of the Department of Senior Services able to assist with information about energy assistance programs, nutrition program, health information, protective services, transportation assistance, health insurance assistance, caregiving issues, and much more. Often a Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) expert may be available to address Medicare proposals and other insurance questions, and some locations have scheduled a fitness demonstration by Senior Services' own "Mr. Fitness." Service providers may vary by site, but other partners include: Coordinated Care Telephone Assurance Program, National Fuel's Consumer Services, Erie County Health Department testing for high blood pressure, Olmstead Center for the Visually Impaired, Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center, and Erie County Office for Veteran Services, to name only a few. At every Alpha location, Erie County Senior Services issues their photo identification cards, the 62+ Card and the Complimentary Card for those 65 and older.

The Alpha program schedule is as follows:
