COUNTY LEGISLATURE APPROVES SOUTHTOWNS SEWER PROJECTS
Erie County Legislator Robert B. Reynolds, Jr. (D-Hamburg), chair of the Finance and Management Committee, announces that the County Legislature recently approved three sewer-related resolutions in his district.
Two agreements concern operations and maintenance agreements with Erie County Sewer District No. 3; the first is with the Wanakah Sewer District, and the other is with the Woodlawn Sewer District. Legislator Reynolds noted that both resolutions state they "will allow the District staff to better control sanitary sewage flows tributary to ECSD No. 3 infrastructure and the Southtowns Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility." He added that there would be no financial affect on the County general fund, because all "anticipated and related costs" would be born by ECSD No. 3, which will now operate the two districts with Erie County.
The County Legislature also approved a consultant engineering services capacity analysis study of the sanitary sewers in Erie County Sewer District. No. 2, to cost no more than $129,265, to be performed by Stearns & Wheler LLC of Amherst. The service area of ECSD No. 2 consists of the Towns of Hamburg, Eden, Brant, Farnham and Evans, as well as the Villages of Angola and North Collins.
"The Big Sister Sewage Treatment Plant on Lake Shore Road in Angola has a rated capacity of 7.68 million gallons per day treatment capacity, and had a 3 million-gallon overflow retention facility built there to provide storage of a two-year storm event," Legislator Reynolds said. "With recent increases in the average and peak flows, there is a need to start studying how new developments will affect the existing system now."
The funds for this project will be provided to ECSD No. 2 from an existing Sewer Capital Account
