REYNOLDS ANNOUNCES LIFEGUARD TESTING
Erie County Legislator Robert B. Reynolds Jr. (D-Hamburg) is announcing testing for lifeguard positions at all county beaches will be held Saturday, May 19 and 26, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Cazenovia Indoor Pool, 626 Abbott Road, Buffalo. Interested applicants must be available both days.
"I am pleased to announce that county beaches will be open every weekend this summer and possibly some weekdays," Reynolds stated. "As a result, we will soon be hiring young women and young men to work as county lifeguards from the end of June through early September, at a pay rate of $8.16 per hour."
Those applying for the county lifeguard jobs must possess current certification in lifeguard training, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for the professional rescuer, any American Red Cross first aid certification and the Waterfront Lifeguard Module. All certifications must be valid at the time of hiring through September 4, 2007. Applicants must also possess an uncorrected vision range of 20/40.
County testing for the lifeguard position will include: a 400-yard swim for time (goggles will be allowed and any turn is acceptable); a 50-yard swim for time, again with any turn acceptable; an underwater swim at a minimum of 25 yards and a maximum of 509 yards; the ability to demonstrate selected life guarding techniques and to demonstrate two minutes of adult CPR.
