Wendt Beach Response

Dear District 12 Constituents:

When I began my service as a county legislator, I did so with the purpose of improving the quality of life in Erie County and working against the entrenched tradition of politics as usual.

Accordingly, when the recent proposal for revamping Wendt Beach into a private bed and breakfast came to light, I took it upon myself to thoroughly investigate and question the project. I did so by collaborating with members of the Evans and Angola communities, The Evans Town Government, State Assemblyman Jack Quinn and members of the Erie County Legislature. I also met with Mark Yellen of Precision Parks and Erie County Parks Commissioner, Angelo Sedita. My intention was to ensure that any work undertaken would be in the best interest of the historic Wendt site, as well as the county residents who utilize the facility.

Unfortunately, mid way in the negotiating process, the management of Precision Parks withdrew their development offer. To some this withdrawal signaled the end of this significant economic development project. However, I would like to suggest that this change of plans is an opportunity to rethink and reformulate the renovation of Wendt Beach, this time considering the input of the community in which it is located and proposals of other developers who might be interested.

It is my firm belief that by collaborating with the appropriate government officials and interested citizens in a shared decision making process we will better be able to restore Wendt Beach to its former grandeur and provide Erie County and her people with an historic architectural and tourism treasure. It is my focused goal to do so.

Sincerely,

Bob Reynolds
