COUNTY LEGISLATOR REYNOLDS ANNOUNCES GOVERNOR'S SIGNING
OF ASSESSMENT DATE CHANGE LEGISLATION
Erie County Legislator Robert B. Reynolds Jr. (D-Hamburg, Evans) is pleased the New York State Governor David Paterson has signed into law home rule requests overwhelmingly approved by the Erie County Legislature asking for the state to allow the county to change when its annual property assessment review hearings are held to coincide with other counties in New York State at its April 3 session.
The legislation will move the assessment review hearings held in early June in Erie County to late May, using a calendar that is the same as other counties in New York State. The resolutions were approved by more than a supermajority of the County Legislature.
"The change of assessment dates brought us in line with New York State and with the surrounding counties, which will benefit villages and towns, including the Village of Gowanda, which is located in two counties," County Legislator Robert B. Reynolds Jr., one of cosponsors of the county's legislation request, said. "Because of this action by Governor Paterson, villages and towns can actually set things up with the potential to save the communities tax dollars.
"School districts will also be able to get their assessments quicker, which will aid their financial operations," Legislator Reynolds added. "I appreciate the support of Minority Leader John Mills and the other legislators to make this happen."
