REYNOLDS ANNOUNCES APPROVAL OF ERIE COUNTY/TOWN OF EVANS-LAKE ERIE TRAIL DESIGN PHASE AGREEMENT
Erie County Legislator Robert Reynolds (D-Hamburg, Evans) announces that the Erie County Legislature unanimously passed the resolution that would amend the September 4, 2003, agreement between Erie County and the Town of Evans to increase the contract amount from $103,000 to $295,000 used by the Town for preliminary engineering, costs associated with the trail project.
The latter extends from the County's Wendt Beach Park to Evans Town Park along the Old Lakeshore Road right-of-way. The funding source for the additional $87,395 will be federal monies allocated to Erie County from the Surface Transportation Enhancement Program. There will be no County funds necessary to satisfy the amendment requirements.
Erie County has been the regional leader in creating accessible waterfront recreation since the mid-1980s and the Riverwalk project. The proposed action is part of a long-envisioned southward extension of the Riverwalk from downtown Buffalo along Lake Erie. This project will improve pedestrian/bicycle access to both Wendt Beach and Bennett Beach County Parks. The project is consistent with the Erie County Parks System Master Plan prepared in 2003.
Should people have any questions concerning this resolution, please contact the Erie County Legislature at 858-7500 or Erie County Legislator Robert Reynolds District Office at 649-2640.
