COUNTY LEGISLATURE 2010 PROPOSED BUDGET HEARINGS BEGIN; SHERIFF, HEALTH DEPARTMENT SET TUESDAY
The Erie County Legislature Finance, Management and Budget Committee started its 2010 proposed budget hearings with a presentation on the budget from the County budget director Monday.
Following the presentation, the committee heard from representatives of the Erie County Board of Elections and County Comptroller Mark Poloncarz.
"The Finance, Management and Budget Committee received an informative presentation on the administration's 2010 budget proposal, and asked a series of questions on the budget figures and policies," County Legislator Robert B. Reynolds Jr. (D-Hamburg, Evans), chair of the Finance, Management and Budget Committee, said. "We also discussed the budget requests of the Board of Elections and the County Comptroller's Office."
"We have several very important departmental discussions scheduled for our hearings Tuesday, October 27, starting at 9 a.m. with the District Attorney's Office," Legislator Reynolds added. "We have allotted an hour for the Sheriff's Office following the District Attorney's report, and the committee will ask about the possible financial costs of pending litigation against the county, including the suits involving the County Holding Center and Correctional Facility, as well as the Sheriff's request for 75 new positions in his budget proposal. We will also be hearing from representatives from the Probation Department and the Health Department."
The schedule of budget hearings for Tuesday, October 27, is: 9-9:45 a.m., District Attorney; 9:45-10:45 a.m., Sheriff's Office; 11 a.m.-noon, Probation; 12:30-1:30 p.m., Central Police Services; 1:45-2:15 p.m., Emergency Services; 2:30-3:30 p.m., Health Department, which will include a discussion on the last two county health clinics closing as proposed by the county executive.
All budget hearings and presentations are open to the public and will be held in the County Legislature Chambers on the Fourth Floor of 92 Franklin Street in Buffalo.
