LEGISLATOR MILLS UPDATES STATUS OF TWO BRIDGES IN THE TOWN OF AURORA
East Aurora, New York - Erie County Legislator John Mills advised that Tannery Road Bridge over Cazenovia Creek was temporarily reopened on December 15, after being closed on an emergency basis April 1, 2008. Legislator Mills had brought the deteriorating condition of the bridge to the attention of the County Highway Department.
The bridge was originally built in 1933. Massive reconstruction occurred in 1956 with the rebuilding of the superstructure and work on the piers. In 1993 repair included joint replacement on two piers. Currently, structural steel repairs, new bearings and concrete repair on two piers was necessary to reopen the bridge.
In the spring after the creek water subsides, Tannery Road Bridge will once again be closed for the placement of a new membrane on the deck and to complete concrete repair on the piers. The reopening of the bridge will depend on weather conditions. It is estimated that the repair will take approximately three weeks.
Legislator Mills also reports that the log jam that has been causing problems at the Mill Road Bridge over Cattaraugus Creek has been removed. The jam was caused by the excessive snow melt resulting from the warmer temperatures that were experienced after Christmas. The clearing of the log jam was a joint effort between Erie and Cattaraugus Counties. Erie County led the way by hiring Union Concrete under the county's emergency bridge maintenance bid contract to do the removal work.
