Maintaining Your Assets
Summer is a great time in Western New York. There seems to be a festival every weekend, outdoor concerts every evening and lots of programs to keep our children busy during the day. Whether it is attending one of these events, enjoying a hike through one of our parks or exploring one of our towns or villages, it is a great time to get out and enjoy all that Western New York has to offer.
In order to properly enjoy these attractions, it is important to properly maintain the venues that house these attractions, as well as the roads that lead to these venues. For those who regularly read my column, you know that I am working hard to maintain your county operated assets. I continue to advocate ways to improve county roads, parks and other properties that belong to you, the taxpayers. I regularly tour our roadways and parks to identify areas that need immediate attention. I am happy to report that conditions of the roads and parks are improving. However, more needs to be done. I will not be satisfied until all of our roads are safe and our parks can be fully enjoyed by all Erie County residents.
During my tours, I noticed various improvements being made by volunteers who wanted to improve these facilities on their own. These efforts included picking up trash, painting and planting flowers. I wish to thank all of these individuals for making the extra effort to make these places extra special. I applaud their efforts and encourage all who are interested to get involved in these groups. I pledge to continue working to make our county operated venues good places for families to visit. Thank you to those individuals who make the extra effort to make these places great places to visit.
Speaking of volunteer efforts to maintain our local assets, I would like to mention an effort that I am undertaking to support our local libraries. At each of the five libraries in the 13th District, I am setting up a grill and offering a hot dog and a bottle of water for $1.00. All proceeds go directly to the library. I had one very successful event at the Collins Public Library in June. On July 30, I will be at the Concord Public Library. I will be at the West Falls, Aurora and Orchard Park libraries in August and September. This is a great way to support your local library and enjoy a hot dog and water for a very reasonable price. I hope to see you at these fundraisers.
Part of what makes Western New York great is the people who live here. The people who live here are what makes Western New York a community, rather than just a place to live and work. Thank you to all of those who volunteer their time and efforts to make our community extra special. During this week that we celebrate our nation's independence, let us also take time to thank those who translate our spirit of independence into a spirit of community.
