Mills joins Christ the King Seminary in celebrating 150 years!
State of New York
Legislature of the County of Erie
Buffalo, New York, July 26, 2007 A.D.

I HEREBY CERTIFY, that at a regular session of the Legislature of Erie County, held in the County Hall, in the City of Buffalo, on the 26th day of July, A.D. 2007, a resolution was adopted, of which the following is a true copy:
Whereas, Christ the King Seminary was founded in 1857 as St. Bonaventure School and Seminary, which later became St. Bonaventure University, in Olean, New York by the Franciscan Fathers of the Order of Friars Minor, and
Whereas, Over time, St. Bonaventure University grew to become a major academic institution and the Seminary portion of the school distanced itself to become a separate school of theology, and
Whereas, Eventually, seminarian enrollment at Christ the King at St. Bonaventure overflowed and the Diocese of Buffalo acted to create a seminary to more closely serve the needs of Catholics in Buffalo, New York, and
Whereas, In 1959 the very generous Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Reuter donated land, in East Aurora, to the Diocese of Buffalo specifically for the purpose of constructing a seminary that would be closer in proximity to Buffalo, New York, and
Whereas, Most Reverend Joseph A Burke, the sitting Bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo at the time, oversaw the construction of St. John Vianney Seminary on the donated land, and
Whereas, In September of 1974, Christ the King Seminary at St. Bonaventure University, merged with St. John Vianney Seminary in East Aurora, and
Whereas, The merger relocated the Franciscan-administered seminary in Olean to its current location in East Aurora and adopted the name "Christ the King," and
Whereas, In June of 1990 the Diocese of Buffalo assumed full operation and administrative responsibilities of Christ the King Seminary from the Franciscans and have operated it since, and
Whereas, This year, Christ the King Seminary celebrates 150 years of successful operation as a seminary, and
Whereas, throughout the last 150 years Christ the King has trained and educated 5 bishops, 1300 priests, 72 Deacons, and 1570 theologians that collectively serve 66 dioceses in 31 states, the District of Columbia, as well as Nigeria and Puerto Rico, and
Now therefore be it,
Resolved, that this honorable body pauses in its deliberations on July 26, 2007 to honor and congratulate the men and women that have taken part in making Christ the King Seminary the beacon of faith and inspiration that it has become, and be it further
Resolved, that the Erie County Legislature wishes Christ the King Seminary 150 more years of prosperous operation and service to the Diocese of Buffalo.
