Town Clerk
Marriage Licenses
If you want to get married in New York State you will need a New York State Marriage License. Here's what you'll bring/do to get one:
- Both applicants must apply in person to the town clerk.
- Both applicants must be over the age of 18 (applicants under the age of 18 are subject to restrictions, see "Getting Married in New York State").
- Both applicants must provide proof of age to the issuing clerk.
This proof can include one of the following:
- Birth Certificate
- Baptismal record
- Naturalization record
- Census record
- Both applicants must provide proof of identity to the issuing clerk.
This proof can include one of the following:
- Driver's license
- Passport
- Employment picture ID
- Immigration record
- A $40 check made payable to the Marilla Town Clerk.
The fee includes the issuance of a Certificate of Marriage Registration (Couples who do not receive a Certificate of Marriage Registration within four weeks of the wedding should contact the town or city clerk who issued the license).
- Completed Bride and Groom application forms.

- Both applicants must provide information regarding previous marriages. This includes whether the former spouse or spouses are living, and whether the applicants are divorced and, if so, when, where and against whom the divorce or divorces were granted. A certified copy of the Decree of Divorce or a Certificate of Dissolution of Marriage is required by the clerk.
- A marriage license is valid for 60 days from the date it is issued.
- You must wait 24 hours after your marriage license is issued to get married.
