January is National Radon Action Month

Radon is an odorless, colorless and tasteless radioactive gas. It comes from the natural (radioactive) breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water and gets into the air that you breath. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates radon to cause between 8,000 and 30,000 of deaths each year. That's because when you breath air containing radon, you can get lung cancer. In fact, the Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US today.

Erie County has been designated by the EPA as high risk "Zone 1" County.
