The Town of Newstead has a well-established recreation program that uses many areas of the community. Most of the activities offered take place at the Akron Central High School, though the soccer fields, Akron Falls Park and Town Park are also used in promoting recreation throughout our town. The program provides activities for various age groups throughout the year. We have a summer program that provides a full day of activities ranging from baseball and swimming to crafts. During the fall, winter, and spring - activities are planned several nights a week at Akron Central High School, which include swimming, basketball as well as other forms of recreation.

The Town board and recreation committee supports and works with many other recreational organizations in our town as well. The Akron Soccer league, baseball and football leagues all benefit from the town's commitment to providing various forms of recreation to the different age groups in our community.

The Akron-Newstead Recreation program offers an adult morning lap swim program on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:00am - 7:30am. The cost is $15.00 per month. To sign up, register at the Newstead Town Hall.
