Please Take Notice, the following rules have been derived from the Erie County Parks Law (Local Law 16-1988), the full text of which and Special Rules of the Commissioner regulating or prohibiting certain activities are available from the Department of Parks & Recreation, 95 Franklin Street, Buffalo, New York, 14202, or may be inspected in the Park Office.
- Hours:
Hours vary by park; call the individual park for opening and closing times.
- Fire Arms:
Carrying or discharge of firearms is prohibited.
- Preservation Of Property:
Destruction or defacing of park property is prohibited.
- Traffic And Parking:
Speed limit is 15 MPH.
No parking more than 5 feet off roadway or where a sign prohibits parking.
Driving off roadways is prohibited.
Commercial vehicles in excess of 2 tons are prohibited.
- Fires:
Fires shall be allowed only in grills, camping facilities & fire circles provided for that purpose or furnished by park patrons, & shall be extinguished upon leaving the site.
(Recommended to bring own grills).
- Garbage And Refuse:
Littering & dumping are prohibited.
- Dogs:
Dogs must be licensed and kept on a leash of no more than 8 feet at all times.
- Hunting, Fishing And Trapping:
Hunting and trapping are prohibited.
Fishing shall be allowed only in season & where posted.
- Bathing & Swimming:
Bathing ans swimming are prohibited.
- Gambling is prohibited.
- Horses & Riders:
Horses & horseback riding are provided in specialized park facilities - Forest areas, Chestnut Ridge Park & Boston Hills Park.
- Alcoholic Beverages:
No alcoholic beverages allowed October 1st to Memorial Day Weekend.
Alcoholic beverages (beer, ale & wine) are allowed by permit only from Memorial Day Weeked thru Sept. 30th EXCEPT at COMO PARK where they are allowed during July & Aug. only by permit.
Consumption of any alcoholic beverage in a moving vehicle is prohibited.
No alcolhol at or on Isle View or Riverwalk parks, at any time.
- Glass Beverage Containers Are Prohibited.
- Disorderly Conduct Is Prohibited.
- Noise & Music:
Unreasonably loud noise or music is prohibited.
- ATV's & Snowmobiles Must Be Registered.
Snowmobiles may be run, in winter only, at Chestnut Ridge. ATV's are
allowed with permits at Chestnut Ridge. Liability Insurance coverage
shall be carried by every snowmobile or ATV operator while the vehicle
is in any EC Parks designated; and shall be produced and displayed upon
the request of any police officer or park official acting pursuant to
his official duties. Snowmobile or ATV vehicles can only be operated
between the hours of 7:30 AM and 9:00 PM and only upon and over trails
designated and posted. No snowmobile is to be operated before December
10th of each year due to deer season. No person shall operate any
vehicle in the following unsafe or harassing way: Imprudent speed,
reckless operation, Intoxication/drugs, without headlight and tail
light, and by towing any person on skis, sled or toboggan.
- Horseshoe Pits Must Be Filled In After Use.
- Commercial Enterprises:
Commercial enterprises are prohibited without a permit issued by the Commissioner of Parks & Recreation or his duly authorized agent.
- Orders Of Police Officers And Park Officials:
Park patrons shall comply with the lawful orders of police officers and park officials.
- Penalties:
Any person convicted of a violation of the Erie County Parks Law shall be punishable by a fine of up to $100 and/or imprisonment for up to 15 days.
- Notice:
The County Of Erie has binding legal contracts with private vendors to
provide food service to patrons at the following county park facilities:
Chestnut Ridge Park Casino
Elma Meadows Golf Club House
Grover Cleveland Golf Club House
Please do not bring food into these facilities without prior consent of
these vendors.
