Identity Theft

Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personal identifying information without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes. This information can be used to open or close bank accounts or make unauthorized purchases.

Identity theft is a serious crime. People whose identities have been stolen can spend months or years trying to undo problems with their credit record and reconcile debts that they did not create. Identity theft victims may also lose job opportunities, be refused loans, their wages could be garnished, their driver’s license could be revoked or they can even get arrested for crimes they didn't commit.
