July 12, 2009- Town of Grand Island- Sheriff Tim Howard reports the arrest of a Grand Island man for DWI following a one car accident on the Island.
Erie County Sheriff's Deputies Gene Nati and Michael Haug responded to Whitehaven Road at the Holiday Inn for a report of a car hitting a utility pole. Upon arrival deputies located the driver on scene and upon further investigation and field sobriety tests, found the driver, 28 year old Daniel Hale, of Grand Island Boulevard, Grand Island, to be intoxicated. Hale was transported by ambulance to ECMC for treatment and subsequently arrested and charged with DWI at the hospital. Hale submitted to a blood test, which was completed and submitted to the CPS lab for analysis and BAC %. Further charges may be pending. Hale's driver's license was suspended at the time of the accident and appropriate charges will be placed for that offense.
New York State Gas & Electric was called to the scene because the pole that was struck broke in half- sending wires down.
