Sheriff's Howard's statements on behalf of the Erie County Sheriff's Office on the tragic loss of Buffalo Fire Lt. Charles "Chip" McCarthy and Firefighter Johathan Croom.
"On behalf of the Erie County Sheriff's Office I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the entire Buffalo Fire Department on their tremendous loss. The pain you feel cannot be explained. The bravery and sheer heroism of Lt. McCarthy and Firefighter Croom goes beyond exemplary. We are all proud of you and grateful to you for your selfless and, often times 'taken for granted job'. Life has a flavor- the protected will never know".
