The Office of Veteran's Services represents the County's 110,000 Veterans. The Department assists some 15,000 veterans and their families each year.
The areas of help cover job search and placement, education, vocation rehabilitation, disability and pension claims, death benefits, medical needs and indigent burials.
Accredited veteran service officers go to homes, hospitals, nursing homes, armories and veteran organization posts to insure veterans and dependents receive their full awards and compensation, which totals some $80 million a year.
An informational newsletter, updating current rules, regulations and awards is sent to every service organization and authorized service officer in the county.
